About the role
Accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classifications using ICD-10-AM and ACHI to episodes of care to meet the data reporting requirements of Queensland Health. A Senior Clinical Coder is acknowledged as having high level clinical coding skills and knowledge across a broad range of specialties in a tertiary setting, through extensive on the job experience.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
- Assign accurate and timely morbidity and procedural classifications to episodes of care for all allocated specialty discharges - Abstract relevant information from the patient record and all available clinical information systems and assign accurate ICD-10-AM and ACHI codes in 13th Edition, according to Australian Coding Standards (ACS), National and State Coding Authority advice and Queensland Health Guidelines, within designated timeframes.
- Employ a range of advanced skills to code complex and long stay cases.
- Under the direction of the Coding Manager and Coding Educator, mentor and assist in the training and supervision of new and existing clinical coders and HIMs and respond to coding queries at an advanced level.
- Actively participate in Health Information Service related coding quality activities including coding quality audits such as ABF and DRG targeted audits, ACHS data validation audits, HAC and VLAD audits, Electronic Validation Application (EVA) error review and ad hoc audits as assigned by the Coding Manager and Assistant Director ABF and Coding.
- As part of the coding process, complete Queensland Cancer Registry notifications and identify and collect other clinical and health data indicators.
- Identify discrepancies between the clinical information systems and patient records and take action to rectify through appropriate channels.
