The Registrar/Principal House Officer assists Staff Specialists in managing acute and urgent medical cases by conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and coordinating care, while ensuring effective communication with patients and their families.

The Rockhampton Rehabilitation Unit is designed for rehabilitation, featuring 16 inpatient beds, 15 day therapy slots, and an amputee clinic. The medical team consists of a Rehabilitation Specialist and a Registrar. The interdisciplinary staff includes nursing, physiotherapy, and various therapy services, addressing cases like stroke, brain injury, and amputations.

About us:

The Rockhampton Rehabilitation Unit is purpose built for rehabilitation. It has 16 in-patient beds, 15 day therapy time slots and clinic area for amputee service and post rehab follow up. The Medical team includes 1 Rehabilitation Staff Specialist, 1 Registrar/Principal House Officer (REG/PHO).

About the role:

The Registrar/Principal House Officer assists the Staff Specialists and Senior Medical Staff in the management of medical patients with acute and urgent illness and injury.

  • Continuation of appropriate medical care for the 16 in-patients, day therapy patients and clinic reviews.
  • Ensure Resuscitation Plan in place for all patients.
  • See referral patients in acute wards or check details for patients referred from outside the Hospital regarding suitability for admission to the Rehabilitation ward.
  • Participate in, case conferences and family meetings, to appropriately coordinate the care of the patient.

About you:

  • MBBS or equivalent to enable registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) at Level 3 supervision.
    • If qualifications were obtained outside Australia, the candidate must be eligible for registration with AHPRA with the appropriate supervision level and provide the following:
      • Evidence of successful completion of IELTS or equivalent English Language test results within the last year.
      • Evidence of successful completion AMC MCQ (part 1) examination.
      • Evidence of recency of clinical practice, supported by current references.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Current AHPRA general registration and a minimum of two years practice within the Australian healthcare system is preferred.
    • Experience and qualifications in Rehabilitation Medicine is well regarded.

Salary information:

Total remuneration value of up to $169,083 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A salary rate between $125,808 - $138,571 p.a. (L4-L7)
  • A salary rate between $125,808 - $145,865 p.a. (L4-L9)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
