Harm Reduction Officer

An exciting and innovative position exists within the Alcohol and Other Drugs Service as a Harm Reduction Officer. Work alongside experienced clinicians and consumers to provide education, intervention and support to at-risk consumers.
The Harm Reduction Officer plays a key role in supporting the development and execution of strategic and local prevention and promotion initiatives within the AODS service. They are responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Primary Needle Syringe Program in Rockhampton, ensuring its effective delivery. Additionally, the officer works to enhance the NSP and the Needle Dispensing Machine network across CQ, aiming to improve access to injecting equipment, information, and related services for the community.

The Service aims to reduce the harm from alcohol and other drug use as well as improve the health and wellbeing of our clients, their families, and the community. Our main offices are located in Rockhampton and Gladstone with outreach services from Rockhampton located in other areas including Yeppoon, Emerald, Blackwater and Biloela.
About the role:
The Harm Reduction Officer provides support to the development and implementation of strategic and local prevention and promotion initiatives for the AODS service. The position coordinates and monitors the provision of the Primary Needle Syringe Program (NSP) for Rockhampton. The position also supports enhancement of the NSP and Needle Dispensing Machine network across the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS) for improved accessibility of injecting equipment, information and services.
About you:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver planned prevention and promotion programs and projects.
- Demonstrated ability to learn and acquire a high level of specialised alcohol and other drugs knowledge.
- Demonstrated high level of effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with AOD clients, network effectively and work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to participate in quality and service improvement activities that enhance the delivery of AODS.
What we offer:
Total remuneration value of up to $114,177 is comprised of:
- An hourly rate between $45.81 - $50.46 p.h.
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading
