This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact in cancer care through advanced clinical practice and leadership. You’ll be responsible for conducting comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments of patients with cancer or cancer-related conditions, both in person and via outreach clinics.

About us:

Rockhampton Hospital Cancer Care Services aims to provide supportive and responsive care to all people affected by Cancer, inclusive of those that require access to palliative care for non-malignant diseases. Our service provides care for people within Rockhampton and the wider Central Queensland region, with a population of 240,000.

About the role:

The Nurse Practitioner (Palliative Care) is a highly experienced Registered Nurse employed by Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS) in an expanded/ advanced practice role, who has also met the academic and clinical requirements for endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner as stipulated by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). The NP is expected to practice, when endorsed, within the defined scope of practice focused on oncology and specialist palliative care, under the legislatively protected title 'Nurse Practitioner', and as guided by their level of experience and agreed medication formulary. The NP is a recognised clinical leader with advanced clinical skills and knowledge who provides specialist nursing care.

About you:

Successful completion of a Master's in Nursing - (Nurse Practitioner) is mandatory for this role.

  • Has the equivalent of three years (5000 hours) of full-time experience at an advanced clinical practice level within 6 years in oncology/chemotherapy prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Has specialised in Palliative Care or a similar Oncology role.
  • Endorsed as a Nurse Practitioner by NMBA, meeting all of the board's requirements. Meets the criteria and is compliant with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Nurse Practitioner standards for practice (Revised 2021).
  • Scope of Practice Endorsed by CQHHS, no restrictions to practice, has a prescriber number +/- provider number.

While not mandatory, experience working in a senior role, preferably oncology based is highly regarded.

  • Previously completed a Graduate Certificate in palliative care, oncology, chemotherapy or similar post graduate degree is highly regarded.

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $177,797 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $75.27 - $78.59 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
