Nurse Practitioner Candidate (Oncology)

We are seeking a vibrant Nurse Practitioner Candidate to join the Oncology Department in Rockhampton on a temporary, part-time basis.

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals undergoing cancer treatment, working with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the best health outcomes. This role involves assessing patient needs, developing and implementing care plans, educating patients and their families, and monitoring progress throughout treatment.

The ideal applicant will be a Registered Nurse with a willingness to obtain Nurse Practitioner endorsement, preferably with experience in oncology nursing, demonstrating strong clinical, communication, and teamwork skills. About us:

Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service provides a range of oncology services including medical oncology, haematology, and radiation oncology in partnership with Genesis Care in Rockhampton with outreach services provided to Gladstone, Theodore, Biloela and Emerald.

The Cancer Care team includes Medical Oncology & Haematology Consultants, Cancer Care Coordinators, Allied Health Practitioners working collaboratively with the Day Therapy Unit team to provide care to the community of Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service. To meet service needs there may be a requirement to provide clinical services at any facility within CQ Health, in line with the clinical services capability of the that facility.

About the role:

The Nurse Practitioner Candidate (NPC) is a Nurse Grade 7 Registered Nurse who is working towards endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner by acquiring the expert knowledge base, complex decision-making skills, and clinical competencies for expanded autonomous practice. The Nurse Practitioner Candidate is an integral member of the health care team who practices in collaboration with other health professionals to assess and manage patients within their clinical context using nursing knowledge and skills. The Nurse Practitioner Candidate contributes to the department, organisation and community through involvement in education, research, quality improvement, and professional leadership.

This Nurse Practitioner Candidate position will provide clinical expertise, education and consultancy to patients within oncology under mentorship and within the Nurse Practitioner Candidate's scope of practice, utilising researched based practice to provide contemporary health care models in the care of oncology patients to improve patient outcomes.

About you:

  • Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory. Upcoming graduates awaiting conferral of qualifications and registration will be considered for this role.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
  • Must be enrolled in a recognised university program to undertake study at a Masters Level with the purposes of gaining Nurse Practitioner licensing through AHPRA within two
  • Whilst not mandatory a candidate would be highly desirable if they demonstrated clinical expertise and experience in the Medical Oncology Setting, possession of relevant postgraduate qualifications in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area

What we offer:

Total remuneration value of up to $82,105 p.a. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $66.85 - $72.58 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
