The Principal House Officer assists Geriatricians and senior medical staff in managing GEM-HITH patients as part of a multidisciplinary team within a 7-day service.

About us:

GEMITH is an 8-bed subacute hospital substitution service that aims to provide comprehensive geriatric assessments and management in the patients' home environment. Care is provided to people over the age of 65 and 50 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people with age related physical, functional and cognitive decline associated with frailty.

About the role:

The Principal House Officer (PHO) assists the Geriatricians and Senior Medical Staff in the management of GEM-HITH patients within the multidisciplinary team across a 7-day service.

About you:

  • MBBS or equivalent to enable registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). If qualifications were obtained outside Australia, the candidate must be eligible for registration with AHPRA with the appropriate supervision level and provide the following:
  • Evidence of successful completion of IELTS or equivalent English Language test results within the last year.
  • Evidence of successful completion AMC MCQ (part 1) examination.
  • Evidence of recency of clinical practice, supported by current references.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Current AHPRA general registration and a minimum of two years practice within the Australian healthcare system is preferred.
    • Experience and qualifications in Rehabilitation Medicine is well regarded.

Salary information:

Total remuneration value of up to $148,296 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A salary rate between $118,444- $129,975 p.a. (L4-L7)
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
