Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) is seeking a Deputy Chief Inspector of Mines (Coal) to lead a dynamic team of inspectors in implementing its vision of zero serious harm in the Queensland resources industry.

Are you a proven leader and effective communicator, with strong problem-solving skills, the ability to influence positive change and foster a culture of respect?

Reporting to the Chief Inspector of Mines (Coal), the Deputy Chief Inspector of Mines (Coal) will have a key role in developing the coal inspectorate's long-term efficiency and effectiveness, contributing to the delivery of RSHQ's strategic objectives, while managing the day-to-day operations of the inspectorate across the state.

We are seeking candidates with:

  • Highly developed leadership, communication and people management skills with a proven ability to lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience in developing team capability, planning and managing operational delivery and effective resource management.
  • Strong stakeholder management experience including the ability to communicate with influence, build relationships and negotiate respectfully.
  • A written and verbal communication style that listens to understand and imparts key messages with a clear, concise and professional approach.
  • The capacity to work across the agency and collaborate to advance organisational objectives.
  • The ability to be analytical, resolve problems and use evidence to make decisions and plan operations based on risk.
  • Experience in developing recommendations and implementing change strategies to deliver quality service/operational outcomes, and improvements to business systems, policies and processes.
  • Well developed, evidence-based understanding of challenges and issues impacting safety and health performance in the resources sector.
