An exciting opportunity exists for a Data Scientist to join our Nursing Workforce and Nursing Informatics team. The Data Scientist within the Nursing Workforce and Informatic team will focus on Foundational Machine Learning for Nursing and Midwifery Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the Sunshine Coast Health. The role has a strong background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science, specifically relating to healthcare and nursing. This role will involve advancing our health service’s research initiatives, developing novel algorithms to improve patient care, and contributing to the scientific community through publications and presentations. This role will participate in all facets of the development lifecycle, to design, develop and deliver digital solutions across Sunshine coast Health.
Sunshine Coast Health is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south and Gympie in the north.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Nursing Workforce and Informatics team consists of clinicians, and programme managers, this role will support evaluating, developing and implementing digital solutions to predict patient outcomes by analysing data from electronic health records (ieMR), improving patient care, automate routine administrative tasks, alert nurses to significant changes for quicker and higher quality access to healthcare with a strong emphasis on AI.

Key Responsibilities include:
- Develop, test, and optimize machine learning models and AI algorithms to improve patient care and nursing workflows in accordance with Queensland Health data-privacy and IT-deployment standards.
- Conduct cutting-edge research in machine learning and AI with applications in nursing and healthcare.
- Identify, design, and implement new methodologies and techniques to solve complex nursing-related problems.
- Develop and apply statistical models and data mining techniques to nursing data in accordance with Queensland Health data-privacy and IT-deployment standards.
Remuneration based pro rata on equivalent full time value up to $182 185 p.a, comprising salary rates: $76.10 - $80.53 p.h, employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (Fixed term temporary part time position, 53.2 hrs p.f. available for up to 24 months). Applications will remain current for 12 months. Please note: only applications from candidates will be accepted (applications that may result in an agency fee will not be considered).
