An exciting opportunity exists for a Laboratory Technical Officer, to join the to the Sunshine Coast Health Institute (SCHI) Laboratory Unit. The SCHI Laboratory Technical Officers’ role is primarily to support and maintain the safe and efficient operations of SCHI research laboratories, associated equipment and contribute to the success of laboratory-based research activities. The role will support and actively contribute to a culture of safety, aid in risk management processes, and engage in supporting the development and evaluation of a range of laboratory-focused technical procedural processes, services, protocols, and associated training. This role acts under the general direction, guidance and instruction provided by the SCHI Laboratory Manager.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Laboratory Technical Officer, to join the to the Sunshine Coast Health Institute (SCHI) Laboratory Unit. The SCHI Laboratory Technical Officers' role is primarily to support and maintain the safe and efficient operations of SCHI research laboratories, associated equipment and contribute to the success of laboratory-based research activities. The role will support and actively contribute to a culture of safety, aid in risk management processes, and engage in supporting the development and evaluation of a range of laboratory-focused technical procedural processes, services, protocols, and associated training. This role acts under the general direction, guidance and instruction provided by the SCHI Laboratory Manager. 

Sunshine Coast Health is in southeast Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south and Gympie in the north.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Assist in developing, carrying out and supervising the operation of specialist research laboratory equipment with the Laboratory Manager.
  • Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
  • Support the Laboratory Manager in performing laboratory and equipment inductions, and safety training, to ensure ongoing user competency.
  • Liaise with equipment suppliers and academics/researchers to ensure the safe usage of precision research and laboratory equipment and organise any necessary maintenance in conjunction with the Laboratory Manager.

Salary between $76 906 - $98 377 p.a., employer contribution to superannuation (up to 12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (PO2) (temporary position available for 12 months).
