We are seeking an experienced Head of Department (Middle Secondary) for a full-time temporary position commencing as soon as possible until 12 December 2025, unless otherwise determined.
As a Head of Department (Middle Secondary) at Varsity College, you will be an integral part of our
Secondary teaching team, leading the delivery of a vibrant curriculum to our students and possessing a strong knowledge of content and pedagogy in this area. You will specialise in the ability to differentiate the curriculum to the diverse learning needs of our student cohort, particularly in the area of the middle
secondary phase of learning.

About the Role
In your role as Head of Department (Middle Secondary) you will:
- Lead and support the whole school approach to pedagogy (including digital pedagogies) relevant to the Middle Phase of learning.
- Focus on initiatives to support the educational outcomes for students, specifically in the middle phase of learning
- Support and lead organisation of O week and Pastoral Care Connect programs
- Determine actions for at risk students through data analysis at key junctures, and strategise interventions
- Attendance - Track key attendance data sets with focus on YTD, TTD and weekly trends. Support the Deans in issuing consequences for students with patterns of truancy/ lateness/poor attendance.
- Behaviour - Track student behaviour data with a focus on daily, weekly and termly junctures, and Case Managed students. Lead behaviour initiatives including referrals for proactive programs and supportive measures, goal setting with students, and enacting consequences for behaviour and the writing suspensions for days 6-10
- Academic - Identify and analyse patterns and trends of academic headline data sets (termly LOA/ NAPLAN) and lead academic improvement interventions where applicable.
- Lead SETP and JETP processes and career development programs suitable for Middle phase of learning students and junctures
- Be committed to creating a school wide culture of wellbeing, engagement and personal achievement that values diversity, responding to the needs and interests of students and staff.

- Demonstrated teaching competence and capacity to provide curriculum leadership, particularly in the area of the middle phase of learning, using data informed practice leading to the achievement of quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Demonstrated experience in tracking and analysing key headline (academic, behaviour, attendance) data sets such as YTD, TTD and weekly trends, as well as using this data to inform interventions and referrals for proactive programs/ support measures.
- Demonstarted experience leading whole school pedgogical approaches suitable for middle phase of learning students with alignment to school priorities and student needs.
- Capacity to effectively manage human, financial and physical resources to deliver high quality organisational outcomes specifically in relation to the middle phase of learning.
