Marsden State High School is seeking expressions of interest for the position of Head of Department – Student Support.
As the Head of Department, you will lead the curriculum focus in alignment with school and departmental initiatives, participate in delivering the vision of the Early Childhood and State Schools Division, develop the quality of
teaching and learning, and nurture positive relationships between students, teachers, and stakeholders.
This position is for a period of 6 months, unless otherwise determined.

Your Opportunity
As the Head of Department - Student Support, you will:
- Lead curriculum focus in line with school and departmental initiatives
- Participate in delivering the vision of Early Childhood and State Schools Division
- Develop the quality of teaching and learning
- Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders.
The Head of Department is accountable to and under the direction of the Principal or delegate.
Desirables
Desirable skills we are looking for are:
- Strong communication skills to effectively lead diverse teams and engage with students, staff, and families
- Proven experience in leading teams and using data to inform targeted interventions and support strategies that improve student wellbeing and outcomes
- Ability to work collaboratively within a school context to support whole-school priorities
- Experience with Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) frameworks is highly desirable to support a consistent, evidence-based approach to behaviour and culture across the school
Your Responsibilities
As the Head of Department - Student Support, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the Tier 2 support services team, including Youth Support Coordinators and Māori and Pacific Islander Liaison Officers, to deliver targeted interventions and case management for students requiring additional support
- Provide whole-school leadership of the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework, ensuring a consistent and proactive approach to student behaviour and wellbeing
- Drive a strong and inclusive house culture that promotes student engagement, a sense of belonging, and school pride across all year levels
