Elanora State High School is seeking an innovative Pedagogy Coach (Literacy) to lead the implementation of evidence-based reading instruction across all learning areas, ensuring every student becomes an effective reader who can access and engage with the curriculum. Working collaboratively with the leadership and teaching teams, the coach builds teacher capability in both broader pedagogy and the teaching of reading through modelling, mentoring, professional learning, and data-informed feedback cycles. This role is a key driver in Elanora State High School's improvement agenda under the pillars of Collaboration, Consistency, and Capability, and underpins our commitment to realising the reading potential of every student.

Key Responsibilities
Instructional Coaching and Mentoring

  • Provide targeted coaching and mentoring in high-impact literacy, reading practices and differentiation across all faculties.
  • Model explicit instruction in reading comprehension and vocabulary development, aligned with the Simple View of Reading and AC v9.
  • Lead collaborative planning with teachers to embed reading strategies within subject-specific contexts.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide timely, evidence-based feedback to improve pedagogy.

Professional Learning and Collaboration

  • Lead professional learning aligned with the Elanora Sustained Improvement Plan, including the Reading Agenda and High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS).
  • Facilitate professional learning communities focused on reading instruction and HITS.
  • Support teachers to use learning progressions and formative assessment to monitor reading growth.

Data-Informed Practice

  • Analyse school-wide and faculty-level reading data to inform coaching priorities.
  • Track and evaluate the impact of literacy initiatives on student learning outcomes.
  • Contribute to data walls and case management processes

Strategic Alignment and Leadership

  • Ensure literacy pedagogy aligns with the school's three levels of planning.
  • Collaborate with the Heads of Department to embed consistent literacy practices across all subjects.
  • Support the development of differentiated resources and exemplars that build teacher clarity in reading instruction.
  • Participate in school-wide reviews, professional networks, and departmental literacy initiatives.
