Head of Department - Student Engagement - William Duncan Positive Learning Centre


South East Region, School and Regional Operations and Performance Division

The Head of Department Student Engagement within the Behaviour Services Support Team will work in collaboration with regional and school staff to support the proactive planning for improved student engagement.

The successful applicant will be solutions focussed, relational in their approach and have demonstrated their experience in supporting students with a range of complex presentations including disability and trauma.

This role will involve building the capability of school teams to implement student support plans with increased confidence.

Nestled in Highland Park on the Gold Coast, the William Duncan Positive Learning Centre offers a fresh, supportive educational alternative for students in Prep to Year 7 who need something beyond the conventional classroom setting.

Here, every student is encouraged to transition successfully back into mainstream schooling or engage meaningfully in their learning journey, with tailored support, small-group instruction and a warm-community feel that truly sets it apart.

With a focus on positive behaviour, personalised learning and strong community partnerships, the Centre is all about creating the conditions for every student to thrive, emotionally, socially and academically.

Step Into Your Next Chapter:

  • Responsibility for delivering Professional Development to school teams on the proactive planning guide, regulation, executive functioning and personal and social capabilities intervention.
  • Support schools in building confidence and capability to implement the proactive planning guide within their school context
  • Support schools to review and enhance Multi Tiered Systems of Support
  • Act as a Regional office Case Lead for a range of students with complex support needs.
  • Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and the community
