EOI - Guidance Officer - Hospital Education Program
South East Region, School and Regional Operations and Performance Division
This position requires strong skills in communication, interagency collaboration and capability to work with South East Region DoE, Queensland Hospital and Queensland Health professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team to support student transitions from QHEP to their base schools (DoE or
Independent) or alternate education pathways.
While Guidance Officers Hospital Education Program (GOHEP) are employed under the Department's generic Guidance Officer role description, the Guidance Officer - Robina Hospital Education Program is a specialist role whose day-to-day activities and responsibilities align with Queensland Children's Hospital School Education Programs.
This position is being offered for Term 2 in a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.80 FTE), 40 hours per fortnight.

This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and any extensions to this appointment will not exceed 12 months.
Priorities of the Guidance Officer Hospital Education Program will include
- Provide professional expertise and leadership in the development and implementation of plans, programs and procedures to assist students with chronic health and/or complex mental health needs to promote access, participation, engagement and connection in education programs of young people.
- Provide educational advice and support to young people, families and health personnel to assist navigating education pathways.
- Collaboratively negotiate, develop and implement transitions upon exiting QHEP for students with chronic and/or complex mental health that are responsive to identified personal, social, emotional and education needs.
- Support promotion, prevention, awareness and capability building regarding mental health and wellbeing within the school community and school leadership teams.
- Follow and provide advice regarding DoE legislation, policies and procedures to Health Department personnel within Hospital Education Programs.
Supervision and Support
The Guidance Officer - Hospital Education Program (GOHEP) will be supervised by a SER Senior Guidance Officer.
The GOHEP will be further supported by the Queensland Children's Hospital School to foster coordination and consistency of practice within and across regions.
It is desirable (but not required) for the successful applicant to have
- A minimum of two (2) years full time, or equivalent Guidance Officer experience;
- Knowledge of complex case management in the support of young people with significant needs incorporating education, social, behaviour and wellbeing;
- Additional training or qualifications in mental health for children and adolescents.
Additional workplace requirements from Queensland Health
- This position requires the successful applicant to work in hospital and health settings.
- It is mandatory for all roles that come into direct contact with patients to provide evidence of vaccination or proof of non-susceptibility for the following preventable diseases:
Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (chickenpox), and Pertussis (whooping cough). - The successful applicant will be provided with official forms to be taken to their local GP for completion and boosters as required. The expectation is that staff have commenced this process before their first work day at QCHS. Any out-of-pocket costs are refunded to staff through QCHS reimbursement processes.
