Youth Worker - Shailer Park State High School
South East Region, School and Regional Operations and Performance Division
We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Youth Worker to support the wellbeing, engagement, and personal development of students within our high school community. This role focuses on working closely with young people who may be experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges, helping them to build resilience, confidence, and positive connections within the school environment.The successful candidate will collaborate with teachers, counsellors, and families to provide targeted support, develop intervention strategies, and promote student wellbeing and inclusion. Responsibilities include one-on-one mentoring, facilitating group programs, supporting attendance and engagement initiatives, and connecting students with external support services where needed.

Your opportunity
This position requires strong communication skills, empathy, cultural awareness, and the ability to build trust with young people. Experience working with adolescents, particularly in an educational or community setting, is highly desirable. As a Youth Worker, you connect students, staff, and families to support those facing educational, social, emotional, or behavioural challenges. You report to the Principal or delegate. We value diverse backgrounds and experiences. Reasonable adjustments can be arranged to support an inclusive and respectful workplace.
Responsibilities include:
- Work with school staff, families, and external agencies.
- Monitor attendance to identify and address student issues early.
- Build strong links with families to improve attendance and support future pathways.
- Assist students at risk of disengaging or leaving school.
- Maintain accurate records and data.
