We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Schools Officer (Gardener) to join our team within a large footprint and well-maintained school.
This role plays a key part in ensuring our grounds and gardens and presented to a high standard to support the ongoing wellbeing of student and the community.
This position is a project-based position concentrating on the schools’ gardens and grounds presentation.

This is a progressional position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the lower classification with eligibility for progression to the next, once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of both classification ranges.

About the Role:
The Schools Officer is responsible for the day-to-day management and upkeep of school facilities and grounds, including:
- Maintaining school buildings, infrastructure, and equipment in a safe and operational condition
- Undertaking minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and routine inspections
- Managing the presentation and upkeep of school grounds, including lawns, gardens, and outdoor learning spaces
- Monitoring and reporting maintenance issues and hazards in line with workplace health and safety requirements
- Coordinating and supervising contractors on site, including ensuring compliance with site induction and safety processes
- Assisting with asset management, stock control, and ordering of maintenance supplies
- Supporting the setup and pack-down of school events, functions, and activities
- Ensuring compliance with departmental policies and procedures relating to facilities and safety

About You:
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
- Experience in facilities, grounds, or maintenance roles (preferably in a school or similar environment)
- Practical skills in general maintenance and an understanding of safe work practices (WHS)
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands
- The ability to work independently while also contributing positively to a team
- Good communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with staff, contractors, and the school community
- A proactive approach to identifying and addressing maintenance and safety issues
