About us:
The New State Special School at Logan Reserve is a brand-new Prep to Year 12 special school opening in 2027. Co-located alongside a new state secondary school, our school will provide a dedicated learning environment for students with disability while establishing its own identity, culture and approach to excellence in teaching and learning.
Your opportunity:
As Head of Department (Curriculum):
- You will work collaboratively with the Principal and leadership team to lead high-quality curriculum implementation, strengthen teacher capability and build a culture of continuous improvement.
- You will lead the implementation of the Australian Curriculum, ensuring all students can access learning through appropriate adjustments, accessible curriculum design and responsive teaching practices.
- You will support teachers to design and deliver engaging, accessible and personalised learning experiences that recognise the strengths, communication, interests and needs of every learner.
- You will lead consistent moderation practices to ensure alignment with the Australian Curriculum and support teachers to make informed, evidence-based judgements about student learning.
- You will drive evidence-informed pedagogy and support teachers to provide appropriate adjustments, monitor student progress and maximise learning, communication, independence and participation for students with diverse and complex learning needs.
- As an instructional leader, you will use coaching, collaboration, data and professional learning to build teacher capability and embed consistent, high-impact teaching practices across the school.
- You will design and facilitate professional learning aligned to curriculum and pedagogy, supporting staff to confidently implement adjustments and deliver high-quality instruction for all learners.
- You will support a culture where every student is known, expectations are high, and success is recognised through growth, achievement and meaningful engagement.
A key focus of this role will be establishing whole-school curriculum processes, including planning, assessment, moderation, reporting and quality assurance systems.
About You:
- As part of the foundation team, you will contribute beyond curriculum leadership — helping establish the culture, relationships, partnerships and ways of working that define our new school community. You will work alongside students, families, staff and community partners to create a school where everyone feels welcomed, valued and connected.
- Success in this role requires strong curriculum knowledge, strategic thinking, relational leadership and the ability to lead change. You will be collaborative, flexible and solutions-focused, with the confidence to build systems and practices in a new and evolving school environment.
