Nerang State School is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative educational leader to join our dedicated team. The successful applicant will build relationships quickly with students and their families as well as staff with a focus on building capability and pacing engagements to meet the needs of all stakeholders. If you are interested in leading health and wellbeing initiatives in the school and supporting student attendance, identified as key aspects of the Guidance Officer role at our school, we would love to hear from you.

This role is offered on a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.40FTE), 20 hours per fortnight.

Your opportunity:

Our Guidance Officer plays a pivotal role in the lives of our students sharing their professional capability with our families, staff and young people in pursuit of increasing a sense of safety, connection and belonging at Nerang State School. Nerang State School is a small school where we collaborate closely to achieve student-centred outcomes. Individual student support, capability building, engagement with stakeholders and productively contributing to attendance initiatives are key aspects of the role. 

You will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:

  • Advocate, provide counselling, psychoeducational assessment and individual student support, recommendations and advice to students, teachers and parents concerning educational, behavioural, career development, mental health and family issues.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitate effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, school personnel and external support agencies in order to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service that optimises students' access and engagement in educational programs.
  • Provide a counselling and referral service to assist students in decision making about critical educational, personal, social, emotional and career development, and provide ongoing support during the implementation phase of their decision.
