The Senior Communications and Digital Officer leads Safe Food's external and internal communications, digital media, content creation, publishing, and marketing activities. The role ensures food safety risks, recalls, and regulatory requirements are explained clearly, accurately, and in plain language. It provides strategic advice on high-risk and sensitive issues, manages campaigns and digital content, builds strong stakeholder relationships, and supervises the Communications and Projects Officer. This position is ideal for someone who can translate complex technical and regulatory information into clear messages using digital media to build trust, influence behaviour, and improve food safety outcomes across Queensland.

Your responsibilities

  • Lead strategic communications and digital promotion activities to strengthen organisational reputation, support corporate priorities, and raise public awareness of food safety.
  • Provide high-level advice on public messaging and digital media to ensure clear, accurate, and timely communication on food safety risks, recalls, outbreaks, and regulatory matters.
  • Plan and oversee stakeholder engagement, communication campaigns and content including high quality website, social media, publications, and education materials and content.
  • Lead the development and approval of communication products including reports, publications, and digital content, ensuring they meet organisational standards and priorities.
  • Lead internal communications and corporate messaging, ensuring staff receive clear and consistent information on priorities, regulatory changes, and key initiatives.
  • Oversee digital channels and content performance including website and social media, using data and feedback to improve reach, accessibility, and impact.
  • Coordinate digital media and public-facing communication activities, building effective working relationships to support accurate and trusted public information.
  • Supervise and support the Communications and Projects Officer, setting priorities, reviewing outputs, and ensuring high-quality delivery and professional development.

You may be directed to perform other duties at a level consistent with this role. This position has one direct report: Communications and Projects Officer (SF5).
