🚨 Director of Nursing – Kowanyama | Permanent Full-Time 🚨

Ready for a meaningful role that starts with a yarn? Andrea Mann, 0412 880 621 would love to hear your story and answer any question you may have about the role.

Remote Living | Accommodation Included | Not for the Faint-Hearted

Looking for a nursing leadership role with air-conditioning, barista coffee, and a short commute to the beach? This is not that job. But if you're after purpose, challenge, and the kind of leadership role that'll test your skills, resilience, and possibly your sense of humour — then read on.

Where is Kowanyama?

Kowanayam is a remote Indigenous community nestled on the western coast of Cape York, far from the chaos of city life. With a population of around 1,000, it's a place of cultural strength, deep connection to country, and community pride.

Kowanyama means “Place of many waters”, and during the wet season… you'll understand why. You'll swap traffic jams for tropical storms and office small talk for real community contribution.

🕒The Role:

We're on the hunt for a Director of Nursing who can:

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team through thick, thin, and cyclones
  • Manage clinical services and complex presentations with limited resources
  • Be a steady, calm leader (even when the Wi-Fi drops out)
  • Work collaboratively with Traditional Owners and community leaders
  • Bring humour, humanity, and hard-earned skill to one of the toughest gigs around

🤝What You'll Need:

  • Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration
  • Strong leadership and emergency response experience
  • Experience working remote or rural
  • A cool head, a warm heart, and the kind of resilience that can't be taught
  • Willingness to lead a team while occasionally also being the team
