🌅Professional and personal motivators!
We are seeking an experienced and culturally aware Senior Community Nutritionist to play a pivotal leadership role in strengthening nutrition and food security across Thursday Island and the wider Torres Strait communities. You will lead community nutrition initiatives, working closely with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, health workers, government agencies, and partner organisations to improve diet-related health outcomes and build resilient food systems.
This role is a unique opportunity to serve as a nutrition specialist in one of Australia's most remote and underserved areas. Healthy food access on Thursday Island is limited and expensive, leading to serious diet-related health issues. If you have the expertise and commitment to community-led approaches, this is your chance to make a valuable contribution.
🌴Thursday Island
Located in the heart of the Torres Strait, Thursday Island offers a unique blend of vibrant culture, close-knit community, and stunning tropical beauty. Surrounded by turquoise waters and rich in Torres Strait Islander traditions, it's a place where your work truly matters — and where island life brings both adventure and deep connection. With regular flights to Cairns, it's remote but accessible — the perfect balance of purpose and paradise.
Fresh produce on Thursday Island is often limited in availability and quality, arriving via barge and deteriorating quickly. Its price can be 20–70% higher than mainland equivalents, making healthy diets unaffordable for many .
