About The Opportunity
The Commissioner for the Pacific, within Trade and Investment Queensland's (TIQ) International Operations Division, is responsible for driving TIQ's strategic objectives across Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Fiji, and other Pacific nations. Reporting to the General Manager, International Operations, the role involves promoting Queensland, building and managing business networks, and capitalising on trade and investment opportunities in the Pacific region.
Key responsibilities include overseeing governance, budgets, and corporate reporting; managing trade missions, Ministerial visits, and business delegations; and strengthening Queensland's reputation as a destination for business, study, and work through strategic relationships with governments, businesses, and industry leaders.
The Commissioner will also develop networks with key decision-makers, collaborate with stakeholders to facilitate trade and investment opportunities, and provide support through market intelligence, business leads, partner introductions, and participation in trade shows and business-matching activities.
To be successful in this role you will:
- Think strategically and bring sound commercial acumen, an understanding of government and the credibility to contribute substantially to international trade and investment activities
- Demonstrate a deep familiarity with countries in the Pacific region and Australia, and have 10+ years international business experience, with a minimum 3-4 years in a senior role
- Champion innovative ideas and demonstrate detailed knowledge in one or more of the Queensland Government's key industry sectors (resources, agriculture, tourism, education, urban infrastructure and knowledge-based industries)
- Demonstrate personal drive and integrity, apply sound corporate governance, engage with risk and show personal courage, commit to action, display resilience, demonstrate self-awareness and a commitment to personal development
- Possess excellent communication and negotiation skills and have a high level of resilience while operating in a high-pressured environment with competing priorities
