Townsville Hospital and Health Service is seeking multiple Registered Midwives to join the team within the Women's and Children's Service Group on a Permanent full-time or part-time basis in the Maternity Services Unit.

Eligible health workers who make the move (interstate or international) to work with us may receive up to $20,000 in incentive payments under the Queensland Health Workforce Attraction Incentive Scheme (conditions apply).

About your opportunity

Registered Midwife (Rotational) / Permanent full-time or part-time / various positions available

This role is a rotational midwifery role where the successful candidate will provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to women in the Maternity Inpatient Unit and Birth Suite. Opportunities may also exist to rotate to antenatal clinics and home visiting midwifery services.

Townsville University Hospital offers women various models of care within the hospital setting in addition to a low-risk Birth Centre model and all risk Midwifery Group Practise (MGP) model and has an established Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Unit. Advanced midwifery skills are desirable and there are opportunities for midwives to work top of scope with support and education provided to develop and maintain these midwifery skills.

The successful candidate will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following

  • Develop in partnership with women, individualised care plans for antenatal, postnatal and intrapartum care and provide midwifery care in the hospital and in the community.
  • Provide support, guidance, preceptorship, supervision and mentoring to new and less experienced staff.
  • Apply evidence-based guidelines to achieve positive care outcomes for recipients of health care services
  • High standard of written and oral communication skills with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families.
  • Knowledge of legal and professional responsibilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate competency as outlined in the NMBA National competency standards for the midwife
  • Clinical skills in IV cannulation, Water Immersion in labour and waterbirth, perineal suturing and speculum examination. If not competent in these skills must be willing to undertake the necessary training within six months of commencement.

Generous remuneration package value up to $121,464 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary range of $82,753 to $106,144 p.a. (full-time equivalent) (Nurse Grade 5)
  • Salary range of $41.73 to $53.53 p.h. (part-time equivalent) (Nurse Grade 5)
  • Annual leave with various leave loading rates.
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Midwifery or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
  • Proof of qualification, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
  • Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster.
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete mandatory competencies including the Extended Practice Authority for Midwives, Examination of the Newborn package, and the Water Immersion in Labour package, within three months of commencement.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
