The Acute Care Team provides Mental Health triage, assessment and consultation liaison for all consumers referred to the service.

There is currently permanent full-time and part-time opportunities available for a Clinical Nurse to join their team.

Eligible health workers who make the move (interstate or international) to work with us may receive up to $20,000 in incentive payments under the Queensland Health Workforce Attraction Incentive Scheme (conditions apply).

The Clinical Nurse in the Acute Care Team (ACT), Mental Health Service Group (MHSG) provides Mental Health triage, assessment and consultation liaison for all consumers referred to ACT.  The position will be required to work in both community and The Townsville Hospital Emergency Department environments. 

The position will be required to work collaboratively with consumers and multidisciplinary professionals to provide mental health assessment, intervention and consultation, mobile crisis response and case management duties as required in accordance with professional standards and legislation consistent with the 10 Year Mental Health Strategy for Queensland and the National Standards for Mental Health Services in the Mental Health Acute Care Team.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following: 

  • Proven ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care at an advanced level within a complex environment.
  • Knowledge of legal and professional responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
  • High standard of written and oral communication skills within the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families.
  • Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position to achieve outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Proven ability to provide clinical education and support at an advanced level and demonstrate own professional development.

Generous remuneration package value up to $132,289 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary range of $4138.10 to $4431.10 p.f. (Nurse Grade 6, Band 1)
  • Annual leave with relevant leave loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Requirements:

  • Proof of qualification, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • Highly Desirable:
    • Credentialed status with the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN). If not Credentialed with ACMHN or willingness to undertake and complete the requirements for certification as Credentialed Mental Health Nurse.
    • Appointment as an Authorised Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) under the Mental Health Act 2016 or the willingness to undertake and complete the requirements for appointment.
    • Possession of relevant post-registration and/or tertiary qualifications in mental health nursing
  • Probation period may apply.
  • All employees of the Mental Health Service Group may be required to work in other areas of the service.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
