The Nurse Practitioner functions autonomously and collaboratively at an advanced practice and expanded clinical role and has expanded skills and knowledge in assessment planning and implementation, diagnosis and evaluation of nursing care required for neonates.

The Neonatal Unit has 22 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and 28 Special Care Nursery (SCN) cots and coordinates the Neonatal Retrieval / Transport Service for the North Queensland area.

About the opportunity:

Position: Nurse Practitioner

Vacancy: Permanent part-time, 72 hours per fortnight

Location: Neonatal Unit, Women's and Childrens Service Group, Townsville University Hospital.

NB: Travel by light aircraft may be required. This role is required to participate in Neonatal Retrievals either by road ambulance, fixed wing or helicopter.

  • Salary range: $75.27 to $78.59 p.h. (Nurse Grade 8)
  • 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading

Requirements:

  • Master of Nursing Science (Nurse Practitioner) or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • The Nurse Practitioner will be required to complete THHS credentialing at commencement of their role, it is then a requirement to be completed 3 yearly.
  • Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
  • Attainment of Neonatal Specific Competencies are mandatory for all nursing staff working within the Neonatal Unit.
  • Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
  • On call: Appointees may be required to participate in an on-call roster.
  • Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role.
  • Probation period may apply.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
