Townsville Hospital and Health Service, is the public healthcare provider for the government areas of Townsville, Burdekin, Charters Towers, Flinders, Richmond, Hinchinbrook and Palm Island. We operate 21 facilities from primary care in regional locations to highly specialised care at the main hospital.

The Townsville Intellectual and Developmental Disability Mental Health Service has been developed to better meet the needs of consumers with neurodivergent disorders, developmental disorders and congenital intellectual disability who access Townsville Mental Health services.

What's on offer?
Pro rata remuneration package based on full-time equivalent value of up to $157,360 p.a.

  • Salary range: $64.64 - $69.55 p.h. (+applicable allowances/benefits) (HP4).
  • 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading and 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.
  • Plus Salary Sacrificing options and flexible working arrangements may be available.

About the role

  • Provide specialist intake, discipline specific assessment, brief intervention and consultation and liaison services, in partnership with Mental Health Service Group treating teams and primary care providers, for people who have a diagnosed or suspected intellectual and developmental disability with co-occurring moderate to severe mental disorders. (including those from specific population groups such as rural communities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culturally and linguistically diverse populations)
  • Provide high level clinical advice and education to professional and operational teams, relevant service managers and other stakeholders regarding IDD MH service delivery, utilising high level written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Provide clinical and professional supervision to less experienced staff, including those with provisional registration, to ensure the maintenance of professional clinical standards within the service.

Role requirements
The successful applicant must possess a four-year degree in Psychology (Honours, Graduate Diploma) from an accredited tertiary institution. General Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia is required. Possession of a Masters or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an accredited tertiary institution, or significant progress towards this, would be highly regarded.
