Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the public healthcare provider for more than 250,000 people across a geographic area of 150,000km2, delivering a comprehensive range of services across 21 facilities, from primary care in regional locations to highly specialised care at the main hospital.

Parklands Residential Aged Care Facility is a Queensland Health managed aged care service within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service and is located in Townsville at the Kirwan campus. The facility provides care for 70 residents with 30 places for dementia care and 40 places for older persons who require care due to fragility and complex needs.

About the role
Parklands provides a multidisciplinary approach to care delivery with a focus on resident's rights and choices. Residents (as able), relatives, carers and other health professionals are involved in the individual care planning process and encouraged to play an active role in the decision-making process. Nursing staff  work together to provide resident focused quality nursing care that meets the aged care quality standards and assist in the provision of leisure and recreational activities and interactions.

The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) is responsible for providing nursing care in a professional, safe and compassionate manner as a member of The Parklands team. The AIN works under the direction of the of the Registered Nurse and this may be overseen by an Enrolled Nurse to assist in achieving service goals.

Role requirements
Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.

Highly desirable

  • Hold a relevant Certificate III in Aged Care, Health Service Assistant or equivalent, or
  • Successful completion of the first semester full-time equivalent Diploma of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies, or
  • Successful completion of the first year full-time equivalent undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing course including all theoretical and clinical competencies
