Townsville Hospital and Health Service, is the public healthcare provider for the government areas of Townsville, Burdekin, Charters Towers, Flinders, Richmond, Hinchinbrook and Palm Island. We operate 21 facilities from primary care in regional locations to highly specialised care at the main hospital.

This role works in collaboration with other Exercise Physiologists and clinicians within the community allied health program streams including short term rehabilitation, and complex chronic and/or aging conditions. The role offers an opportunity for working across clinic, home visit and community locations.

About the role
Deliver Exercise Physiology clinical services with consumers (>18 years) of the Townsville Community Allied Health Services, within the context of the multidisciplinary team, presenting with health needs relating to post-acute follow up/rehabilitation and complex chronic and/or aging health conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Effectively and appropriately assess clients, including the application of clinical judgement to a complex workload within the multi-disciplinary care coordination model.
  • Exercise prescription and delivery of exercise in individual and group program settings, including the provision of education and education program components of group programs, within a multidisciplinary team approach.
  • Apply professional judgement to clinical decisions in accordance with best practice guidelines and ethical standards. Engages in supervision / peer case conference when required to inform complex clinical decisions, with a decreasing need for supervision as experience, clinical judgement and independence increases.

Role requirements

  • The successful applicant must hold a tertiary degree qualification in Exercise Physiology and be eligible for membership of ESSA.
  • Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this vehicle is required.
  • Aged Care Pre-Employment Screening: Applicants are advised this position works in an identified Aged Care Facility as per the Aged Care Act 1997 and therefore requires employees and volunteers to have a current National Police Certificate. Queensland Health will facilitate applicants obtaining the above National Police Certificate.
