Based at Townsville University Hospital, the Indigenous Hospital Liaison Unit provides culturally safe support and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and families.

Competitive salary and benefits:

  • Permanent part-time (30.4 hours/fortnight). Includes on-call arrangements.
  • HWF3 classification: $37.87–$52.07 per hour.

About your opportunity:

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hospital Liaison Officer will provide support and advocacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hospital Liaison Officer will support and work collaboratively with the multi disciplinary teams across the Townsville Hospital and Health Service by providing cultural consultancy and education to ensure health services provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients are culturally appropriate and safe.

Requirements: 

  • Mandatory: Appointment, and future increment progression, between pay points HWF3.1 to HWF3.5 requires:
    • Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health.
  • Appointment, and future increment progression, between pay points HWF3.2 to HWF3.7, or HWF3.8 (limited to employees who meet the requirements of HED 04/23) requires:
    • Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
  • Blue Card, C Class Driver's Licence, and VPD compliance required.
