About the work unit / facility
Townsville Public Health Unit (TPHU) safeguards community health through population-wide strategies and partnerships with health services, government, NGOs, researchers, and community groups. Its focus is on reducing communicable diseases, vaccine-preventable illnesses, and environmental health risks across the region.
Key activities include disease surveillance, outbreak response, immunisation, mosquito control, sexual and skin health programs, disaster preparedness, remote health promotion, regulatory enforcement, and research.

- Salary range: $107,960 to $115,604 p.a.
- 4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading

About your opportunity
This role supports improved skin health outcomes for First Nations communities through culturally safe, community-led care. Working in an outreach model, the nurse delivers education, health promotion, and clinical expertise focused on preventing and referring skin infections early—aiming to reduce acute rheumatic fever and related complications.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification and registration with AHPRA.
- Under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
