• In the position of Principle House Officer/Registrar you will be expected to participate in the provision of high-level inpatient and emergency clinical services within West Morton Rural Services and to ensure that safe, high quality, patient centred care is provided to all within West Moreton Health.

West Moreton Health Community – Snapshot

  • Ipswich Hospital is our HHS acute teaching hospital and major referral centre. It has 421 beds and sees approximately 80,000 presentations per year with approximately 20-25% of presentations being paediatric.
  • Specialties including anaesthetics, General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Paediatrics, ENT, Palliative Care, Rehabilitation, Mental Health and Allied Health services.

Rural Health facilities servicing the rural communities of the West Moreton Region include:

  • Boonah – 49kms from Ipswich (45mins)
    • 16 Funded Beds with physical capacity for 22 beds
    • Six are dedicated to rehabilitation and two are dedicated to Palliative Care
    • Emergency Department – sees approximately 3000 patients per year
  • Esk – 65kms from Ipswich (53mins)
    • 15 funded beds with physical capacity for 20 beds, 2 ED beds
    • Palliative care room
    • Infusion service
    • Emergency Department – sees approximately 3000 patients per year
  • Gatton – 56kms from Ipswich (47mins)
    • 22 Funded beds
    • Recent upgrade to Emergency Department
    • HITH Lockyer Valley based at Gatton Hospital
    • Emergency Department – sees approximately 6200 patients per year
  • Laidley – 44kms from Ipswich (40mins)
    • 10 Funded beds with physical capacity for 15 beds
    • Infusion service
    • Emergency Department – sees approximately 6200 patients per year

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Competence and capability in primary rural medical practice and/or emergency medicine (particularly hospital-based practice)
  • Experience in delivering quality care to inpatients, outpatients and Emergency Department clients across a variety of acuity and care needs.
  • Knowledge and practical application of the National Quality & Safety Standards through the delivery of Safe and Quality focussed Patient centred care.
  • Excellent communication and ability to function in a multidisciplinary team and to provide leadership within the team.
  • Experience and commitment in education and training of medical staff and/or medical students.
