About the role

There is an opportunity for General practitioners with an interest in Young persons health and mental health to provide enhanced primary health care to detained vulnerable young people by performing comprehensive and holistic screening assessments as well as providing care and referrals to specialist services. Leading multidisciplinary case conferencing including with specialists for identified complex clinical cases spanning across physical, mental, and developmental/cognitive disorders to not only establish diagnosis but to deliver optimal care within detention and upon release back into their community, giving young people the best chances for rehabilitation.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Commitment to the principles of quality in health care including contributing to initiatives relating to quality improvement, research, risk management, and the improvement of patient and service outcomes.
  • Is self-directed and works flexibly without supervision.
  • Can describe the vision for their area and how their work contributed to organisational objectives.
  • Extensive clinical experience with appropriate knowledge and skills in providing a primary health service in a correctional/youth detention environment, with an ability to deliver quality specialist care to young persons in a clinical setting including directing the process of assessment, admission, ongoing care, transfer and discharge of patients.
  • Communicate in a way that is appropriate for the situation, and that promotes trust, respect and integrity with patients and colleagues.
  • Commitment to leading the performance, development and education program of clinicians at an undergraduate and postgraduate level.
