The role

As the Occupational Therapy Director, you will provide strategic direction and advocacy in the management and delivery of Occupational Therapy services across multiple complex services and practice domains (adult physical, paediatric, and mental health) across Ipswich Hospital, Boonah Hospital, Laidley Hospital, Esk Hospital, Gatton Hospital, Ripley Satellite Hospital, The Park – Centre for Mental Health and various community services across West Moreton Health (WMH). 

This also includes leading service development, service review, and service improvement initiatives at all levels, and leading the review, development, and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for complex occupational therapy services.

The strategic influence of the position is significant across multiple facilities, services, and practice areas across West Moreton Health, providing the strategic direction for Occupational Therapy services across all existing services as well as the strategic direction for all new services as they are developed across acute, sub-acute, and community settings.

This role has direct operational and professional management of 36.0 FTE and professional management of an additional 52.8 of FTE (Total 88.8 FTE)

About you

As an experienced occupational therapist with proven and well-developed leadership capabilities you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Providing expert strategic direction to a large professional team operating over multiple complex acute, sub-acute and community sites and across multiple complex practice areas including adult physical, paediatric, and mental health.
  • Advocate to the Executive of WMH for Occupational Therapy in terms of professional matters of high importance at a state-wide level using expert level negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Expert leadership in contributing to the development of professional standards for Occupational Therapy on a state-wide basis, and leading the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of professional standards across WMH.
  • Recognised expertise, knowledge and skills obtained through formal qualifications, postgraduate education, or continuing education.
  • Expert knowledge and skills and strategic level leadership abilities to manage major, complex Occupational Therapy services.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in Occupational Therapy and have current full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as an Occupational Therapist. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
