• The Clinical Nurse within Central Sterilising is responsible for the Reprocessing of reusable medical devices in accordance with relevant Australian standards, manufacturer’s directions, and related workplace instructions.

About the role

The Clinical Nurse is a registered nurse who is accountable for practice at an advanced level, working collaboratively within the unit and with other members of the health care team including consumers/carers, other health professionals, general practitioners and other agencies (including non-Government agencies). This role contributes directly to the delivery of clinical service and support specific to reprocessing of reusable medical devices within Central Sterilising Department used within a healthcare setting.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge of relevant Standards to the reprocessing of Reusable Medical Devices used within healthcare setting, delivering expert nursing care in complex situations while providing support and direction to other team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate staff and manage delegated resources including prioritising needs and supporting day-to-day changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in the multidisciplinary team to identify areas for improvement in work practices and outcomes and contribute to the continued improvement of policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and lead quality improvement and research initiatives within the work unit, contributing to the use of evidence based practice to facilitate improved patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, patients, relatives and visitors and maintain a positive workplace culture through well developed consultation, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Certificate III in Health Service Assistance (Sterilisation Services) and experience in the Sterilisation work environment.
