We treat people based on their individual needs. We work closely with specialists and other services inside and outside the prison to make sure people get the help they need.

About the role

This position works in the Prison Mental Health Service (PMHS) to provide voluntary assessment, treatment, and continuity of care for persons in correctional centres who have or may have a mental illness. Psychological services are delivered as part of a multidisciplinary team including nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, and occupational therapists.

The purpose of this role is to deliver high level psychology clinical services and leadership within PMHS.  This role is a reference point of members of that team.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • High level clinical expertise in delivery of evidence-based psychological assessment, formulation, and treatment skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a team environment to influence a clinical or service outcome.
  • Ability to independently manage clinical caseloads.
  • Ability to monitor and report clinical work practices and outcomes that supports continuous local service improvement initiatives.
  • Actively contributes to a learning environment through clinical supervision, mentoring, and skill sharing.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Psychologist Applicants must be eligible for general registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Psychology Board of Australia (PsychBA). While not mandatory, a Psychology Board of Australia (PsychBA) area of practice endorsement in Clinical and Forensic Psychology would be highly regarded, as would PsychBA approved Supervisor status.
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
