About the role

The High Secure Inpatient Service (HSIS) is the state's only forensic inpatient service. It provides a highly supervised, supportive and secure environment for individuals alleged to have committed a serious offence, involved with the criminal justice system, and who present with complex mental health needs requiring assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.

Extended Forensic Treatment Rehabilitation Unit (EFTRU) provides a model of care centred around the patient's transition back into the community. EFTRU is a state-wide unit, providing ongoing specialised rehabilitation in a less restrictive environment.

Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (SMHRU) is a secure mental health rehabilitation unit. This unit provides inpatient services to consumers from the West Moreton, Metro South, and Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) will be responsible for coordinating and leading an Occupational Violence Prevention (OVP) Strategy (Strategy) within Forensic and Secure Services' (FSS) inpatient setting.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Display excelled knowledge and understanding of what Occupational Violence is, how it occurs, its impacts and how it can be mitigated within the FSS inpatient environment.
  • Display the necessary clinical experience, leadership and knowledge to implement, teach and deliver the bespoke OVP Strategy for the FSS inpatient services.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult, communicate and collaborate with staff at all levels, presenting to groups, facilitating workshops, and chairing meetings on matters relations to Occupational Violence Prevention.
  • Previous experience in managing situations which have may involve challenging behaviour that identifies as occupational violence.
  • Able to display and identify what least restrictive practice is and how it is achieved.
  • Knowledge of contemporary forensic mental health clinical practice and theory
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, Australian Standards and guidelines relating to the prevention of occupational violence in mental health and health care settings
  • The ability to identify learning needs, develop and lead the educational interventions applying evidence-based practice principles and an adult learning framework within dynamic clinical environments.
  • Experience in leading change initiatives in challenging environments to address risks.
