About the role

The Interpreter Coordinator will manage, co-ordinate and support the delivery of a responsive and effective Interpreter Services to West Moreton Health patients and consumers who are not proficient in English and who are deaf or hearing impaired.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Maintain a detailed working knowledge of relevant legislation, Queensland Health and Government policies and procedures including Multicultural Recognition Act 2016, Disability Services Act 2006, Human Rights Act 2019, Multicultural Queensland Charter, Queensland Multicultural Policy, Queensland Multicultural Action Plan, Language Services Policy (2016) and Guidelines (2016) and Working with Interpreter Guidelines (2007), to provide high-level advice about their compliance and implementation.
  • Develop partnerships with Interpreter Agencies to adequately facilitate language service demands whilst delivering optimal cost and service delivery outcomes.
  • Maintain a strong collaborative working relationship with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) and Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT). Active participation in statewide Interpreter working group forums and collaborates with other Hospital and Health Services to meet key performance indicators.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge and understanding, or an ability to rapidly acquire knowledge and understanding, of Interpreter Services and its service delivery requirements within a diverse organisational structure.
  • Ability or willingness to learn to effectively use information systems necessary to provide information on Interpreter Services as a management tool for strategic planning purposes.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills, relates well to people at all levels of a multidisciplinary workforce, uses sound judgement on sensitive and confidential issues, build constructive and effective relationships, and networks with all stakeholders including but not limited to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a high level of knowledge about contemporary and emerging policy issues and practices associated with Interpreters, Multicultural, Deaf or Hearing Impaired Services.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement, to resolve problems, develop and implement business information and administrative procedures.
