About the role
The role of the Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) in the Oncology Day Unit is to provide clinical expertise and consultancy through advanced clinical leadership relevant to cancer care. The CNC provides direct and indirect care as required and works in collaboration with the Nurse Unit Manager, Nurse Educator and wider multidisciplinary health care team supporting the clinical unit and the hospital in provision of safe quality healthcare through exemplary clinical nursing standards of practice.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Oncology Unit provides specialist cancer nursing knowledge as follows:
- Demonstrates an expert level of professional clinical practice and skills within Oncology.
- Demonstrates advanced level decision making in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
- Provides clinical leadership.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated ability to apply specialised knowledge of contemporary cancer nursing practice and participate directly and indirectly in the delivery of patient centred consultancy and clinical care with the ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication and inter-personal skills across a variety of mediums and ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication, and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team inclusive of external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence-based research and best practice principles.
- Demonstrated skills in strategic and clinical service planning including an understanding of organisational behaviour, change management and cultural change processes.
- Demonstrated skills in clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems and experience in the development of specialty education programs.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
- Minimum five years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in Medical Oncology and an extensive cancer treatment knowledge.
- Post Graduate Qualifications in Cancer Nursing or other qualification or experience in a similar field/s is essential.
