• Mūrrūmba Targan Djimbulung (MTD) provides wrap-around health and well-being support to First Nations adults who live in West Moreton and experience chronic health issues, such as diabetes and ongoing heart and lung issues. The name Mūrrūmba Targan Djimbulung (pronounced mood/oom/bah tah/gan jimba/lung) means ‘good healing my people’ in language gifted to the health service by the region’s three Traditional Owner groups, the Jagera, Yuggera and Ugarapul peoples.

About the role

The purpose of this role is to deliver high level cultural advice and professional and culturally specific support to First Nations adults in West Moreton through the implementation of a range of chronic disease management activities, and through the application of the principles of best practice, education and leadership to ensure safe practice and high-quality client outcomes.

The aim of the role is to achieve improved health outcomes for First Nations peoples accessing health services, as per the objectives of the West Moreton Health First Nations Health Equity Strategy 2022 – 2025.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • High level interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills and ability to develop effective partnerships within the Health Service and with external stakeholders.
  • Cultural lived experience and understanding of the cultural factors and histories that affect the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today.
  • Ability to provide effective cultural support to First Nations peoples accessing health services.
  • Ability to support multidisciplinary teams to improve their understanding of the Social, Emotional and Well-Being needs of First Nations consumers.
  • Appropriate clinical skills for the delivery of evidence-based health assessments, health promotion, education and illness prevention activities and primary health care services to First Nations peoples.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
  • Applicants who do not hold the mandatory qualification requirements, but believe they have the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the role as outlined, and will commit to completing the qualification(s) within an agreed timeframe if appointed, are encouraged to apply for this vacancy. Should the applicant be successful, employment will be at the no qualification pay point until evidence of completion of the required qualification(s) is provided.
