Nurse Practitioner - Ripley Minor Injury and Illness Clinic

Our Health Service is expanding and so is our Ripley Minor Injury and Illness Team!

Ripley Satellite Hospital is a purpose-built health facility located within a residential community setting. The Minor Injury Illness Clinic located at the Ripley Satellite Hospital is a new Model of Service for the West Moreton Hospital and Health Service. Recognition of increased pressure on the conventional Emergency Department has resulted in the development of an innovative, patient centred model of care bringing health care closer to communities. The Minor Injury Illness Clinic provides urgent, non-scheduled, episodic care to patients presenting with low acuity injuries and illness not requiring traditional Hospital Based Emergency Department intervention or requiring overnight hospitalisation.

About the role

This model of care provides opportunity for Emergency/ Primary Care Nurse Practitioners to care for patients presenting with urgent but non-life-threatening injuries and illness triage categories 3 to 5 and offers nuances of an Emergency Department without the overwhelming pressures and burdens of conventional Emergency Nursing.

The Minor Injury Illness Clinic will operate extended hours of operation, 7 days per week. Presentations to the Minor Injury Illness Clinic can be via self/ own transport, Queensland Ambulance Service, or referral from an alternate health care provider.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Emergency Minor Injury Illness Clinic at Ripley Satellite Hospital is a registered nurse who is endorsed as a nurse practitioner and demonstrates advanced and expanded clinical skills, knowledge, and high level of capacity to translate these into contemporary evidence based clinical care for patients in a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic setting.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated contemporary advanced practice, expert clinical skills, and knowledge in credentialed scope of practice and leadership capability enabling the delivery and support of high-quality patient focused care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to apply specialised knowledge of contemporary advanced nursing practice and theory in credentialed scope of practice and to participate directly and indirectly in the delivery of clinical care.
  • Demonstrates the ability to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication, and a positive environment within and across the multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others to a high standard.
  • Demonstrates the ability to educate, inform, counsel and support patients and families with contemporary clinical information at an advanced level relevant to patient's care and understanding.
  • Applies knowledge of quality improvement frameworks and associated quality processes including the integration of contemporary nursing research to all clinical activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact professionally and maintain professional relationships with all members of the healthcare team both internally and externally to the health service.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Appointment to this position requires registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) as a Registered Nurse with Endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner and a current annual practising certificate are mandatory.
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
