About the role

The Clinical Midwife is a registered midwife who provides expert clinical midwifery care and will work in a small partnership of 4-5 midwives providing midwifery care to a defined group of women throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. Caseload midwives work within the Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) which may consist of several partnerships.

Caseload midwives provide all antenatal and postnatal care by conducting appointments either at the woman's home, community clinics or hospital within a defined geographic boundary for a defined group of women. Intrapartum care is provided within Ipswich Hospital.

Caseload midwives practice collaboratively alongside the Ipswich Hospital midwives, Obstetric and Neonatal team. The caseload will equate to an employee working 38 hours per week, that is, a full-time midwife, and will be based on a full-time midwife providing full care for up to 38 clients in a 12-month period.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge in the area of Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) delivering expert midwifery care in complex situations while providing support and direction to other team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, patients, relatives and visitors and maintain a positive workplace culture through well developed consultation, liaison, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to role model excellent standards of comprehensive, evidence-based midwifery care and documentation to facilitate quality patient outcomes, in accordance with National Safety and Quality Health Service and professional standards.
  • Ability to prioritise clinical and related administrative duties, including effective and efficient planning and organisation of complex caseloads with proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position.
  • Pro-actively manages own continuous learning and development.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and lead quality improvement and research initiatives within the work unit, contributing to the use of evidence based practice to facilitate improved patient outcomes.
