About the role
The aim of the role is to achieve improved mental health outcomes for First Nations peoples accessing the mental health service, as per the objectives of the West Moreton Health First Nations Health Equity Strategy 2022 – 202
This role is classified in accordance with the Phase 2 outcome provided under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce (Queensland Health) Certified Agreement (No. 1) 2019. A Phase 3 process will occur to confirm the classification of the role. This process may result in changes to the role description, position title and classification and remuneration levels, however there will be no loss of employment conditions or remuneration for employees.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- High level interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills and ability to develop effective partnerships within the Health Service and external stakeholders.
- Cultural lived experience and understanding of the cultural factors and histories that affect the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today.
- Ability to provide effective cultural support to First Nations peoples accessing community mental health and alcohol and other drugs services.
- Ability to support multidisciplinary teams to improve their understanding of the Social, Emotional and Well-Being needs of First Nations consumers.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
- Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
- Successfully completed Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, Certificate IV in Mental Health or Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs and/or Diploma of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, Diploma of Mental Health or a Diploma of Alcohol and Drugs.
- Applicants who do not hold the mandatory qualification requirements, but believe they have the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the role as outlined, and will commit to completing the qualification(s) within an agreed timeframe if appointed, are encouraged to apply for this vacancy.
