About the role
Provide clinical care to patients and clinically manage, on a day-to-day basis, the associated multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure the provision of appropriate patient care. Provide professional leadership within a specialist medical area and provide training, education and supervision to junior medical staff and other health care members.
Some of the key responsibilities of the role are:
- Provide anaesthetic outpatient and inpatient care.
- Provide appropriate evidence-based clinical care and, where necessary, delegate the provision of clinical care to patients under their name.
- Contribute to the delivery of teaching medical students, registrars, and prevocational junior doctors within the hospital through guidance, seminars, tutorials, on-the-job and off-the-job training to clinical staff on their specialist area.
- Involve members of the multi-disciplinary team in the assessment and provision of patient care to recognise the benefits and application if different discipline areas.
- Involvement in the on-call Anaesthetic roster.
- Provide and allow for adequate communication to all stakeholders along the patient's continuum of care.
- Contribute to the establishment and fostering of relationships between the hospital and relevant community groups in order to provide information about the hospital and to ensure the continuum of care for the patient.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrate efficient utilisation and management of resources as well as developing an awareness of budgetary issues in order to support hospital budgetary goals of cost containment and efficiency.
- Professional training and experience in general adult anaesthesia and paediatric anaesthesia.
- Demonstrate current competency in advanced life support skills.
- Contribute to clinical audit, professional development and research activities within the department.
- Capacity to provide supervision and teaching to anaesthetic registrars, junior medical staff and medical students.
- Demonstrate sound communication skills with patients and other members of the clinical team including specialist colleagues, registrars, junior medical staff and nursing staff.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association within Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
- Registration with the AHPRA as a Specialist in Anaesthesia with Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or equivalent.
