About the role

The Senior Communications Officer (Identified) is responsible for leading inclusive, strategic and culturally responsive communications that reflect and respect the diversity of the communities we care for.

The officer plays a key role in amplifying First Nations voices and driving inclusive communication that strengthens relationships with First Nations peoples, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities and other priority populations. The role contributes to organisational priorities, supports health literacy improvement and enhances community engagement and trust through impactful campaigns, compelling storytelling and the development of culturally appropriate communication tools.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Strategic communication expertise, with the ability to deliver inclusive, strengths-based messaging that reflects the diversity of our communities, including First Nations peoples.
  • Strong storytelling and content development skills across digital and traditional platforms, with a focus on clarity, cultural safety, and impact.
  • Experience developing and delivering campaigns that improve health literacy, drive behavioural outcomes and support organisational priorities.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and provide high-level communication advice.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and complex projects in a fast-paced environment, delivering timely, high-quality outcomes.
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion, and a proactive mindset that supports innovation and continuous improvement in communication practice.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) it is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. An Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who:
    • Identifies as an Aboriginal an/or Torres strait Islander person
    • Is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
    • Is accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander person by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in which they live.
  • There are no mandatory qualifications required to undertake this role however relevant tertiary or post-graduate qualifications, and/or professional memberships, are highly desirable.
  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
