About the role

The Advanced Speech Pathologist - Acute role is responsible for providing advanced level clinical speech pathology services. This position will be based across adult Acute Hospital Services within West Moreton Health.  

This role reports operationally and professionally to the Director of Speech Pathology and Audiology, West Moreton Health.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Provide advanced level knoweldge, skills and contemporary clinical practice in speech pathology management of adult patients in the area of adult acute and procedural outpatient services to provide optimal patient outcomes, in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards.
  • Utilise evidence-based practice to apply knoweldge and skills that faciltiate novel, complex, critical discipline specific or multidisciplinary clinical decisions, with minimal clinical practice supervision.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Clinical Expertise - Demonstrated advanced level of knowledge, expertise and skills in contemporary speech pathology adult clinical practice standards in acute care.
  • Team Participation / Communication - Demonstrated advanced negotiation, advocacy, consultation, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills, and high-level ability to provide advice to senior managers and other stakeholders on service needs.
  • Quality Improvement – Demonstrated ability to lead, implement, evaluate and review quality and service improvement initiatives through continuous quality improvement and/or research projects that optimise outcomes for patients in alignment with organisation and Queensland Health strategic direction.
  • Work Unit Management - Demonstrated ability to lead, facilitate, monitor and report on activity within the Speech Pathology Department and provide daily clinical and professional management of a clinical service.
  • Leadership - Demonstrated ability to lead a team including effective supervision, training, and service improvements. Demonstrated ability to support less experienced clinicians and students to facilitate independent clinical reasoning and high-level skills in others.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
  • Appointment to this position requires the possession of a tertiary degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for practicing membership with Speech Pathology Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
