About the role

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Deliver quality, evidence-based oral health therapy and dental hygiene services in accordance with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Authority (AHPRA) , Dental Board of Australia, Queensland Health's core values and the professional and ethical standards as outlined by West Moreton Health.
  • Apply professional judgement and knowledge to a routine and at times complex caseload which incorporates the triaging and management of general and emergency and patients, daily within a dental facility.
  • Contribute to collection of data through documentation of clinical notes as a record of treatment undertaken and allocation of appropriate coding.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  • Effective prioritisation and time management to meet and exceed client expectations, with an enthusiastic, professional, and flexible approach. This includes the ability to safely manage general and emergency patients in a clinical day.
  • Proficient use of digital applications including electronic clinical record, digital radiography, online roster, Microsoft 365 suite of programs, and Queensland Health enterprise solutions.
  • Commitment to maintaining current knowledge of the dental profession and using this knowledge to work according to best practice, solve problems and improve processes. This includes maintaining CPD requirements for registration in line with the Dental Board of Australia and AHPRA.
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with multidisciplinary teams to deliver quality oral health therapy, dental hygiene, and dental health education to clients in rural, community and school settings.
  • Ability to provide mentoring, guidance, direction and support to less experienced staff, dental assistants, admin support staff and students, as experience builds.
  • Possess a strong work ethic through displaying honesty, integrity and respect for patients; respecting the needs of other team members and communicating with all team members and stakeholders appropriately and professionally.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration as an Oral Health Therapist with AHPRA. A certified copy of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Possession of an appropriate Use Licence issued under the Queensland Radiation Safety Act 1999.
