Prison and Youth Detention Health Services (PYDHS) is a rapidly growing division within the West Moreton Health region, delivering primary health care services to detained, remanded and sentenced prisoners and Young Persons across eight facilities (six Correctional Centres and two Youth Detention Centres).
PYDHS has varied operating hours at each centre. PYDHS is a seven-day service with either 24/7 roster or two-shift roster (AM and PM), with centres varying between 8 hour, 9.5 hour, and 12 hour rotating shifts

About the role
The Clinical Nurse Consultant - Prisoner Triage within Prison and Youth Detention Health Services is an advanced clinical practice registered nurse who provides clinical support and nursing leadership.
This position provides expert knowledge, skill and abilities for clinical care and guides clinical practice across prison health centres to support patient centred triage and pathways. This position also supports the Nurse Unit Manager to meet the strategic and operation objectives of patient-centred care within a Correctional Centre and within an inter-professional team framework.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated contemporary expert level of knowledge, clinical nursing skills, expertise and experience in contemporary primary health care and correctional health clinical practice related to assessment, treatment and care.
- Demonstrated ability to provide specialist clinical advice to communicate, consult, liaise and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders engaged in service delivery to patients. This includes demonstrated clinical skills and ability in the development and maintenance of collaborative partnerships at the individual, agency and inter-sectoral levels.
- Proven leadership skills, including the ability to initiate, develop, implement and evaluate a range of health support information programs and other resources for staff involved in the care of patients within a primary health model of care.
- Capability to provide clinical supervision and mentoring to ensure maintenance of professional clinical standards and quality of primary health care for consumers.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate primary health clinical practices, tools, protocols and guidelines to ensure optimum standards of primary health care and outcomes for patients within Correctional Centres.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration or membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
- A Queensland Corrective Services check will be undertaken on persons recommended for employment.
