Teach in QLD

Expressions of interest are sought from existing permanent or temporary teachers currently located in North Coast, Metropolitan and South East Regions to be part of the Teacher Rapid Response Team (RRT).

The Teacher Rapid Response Team is a talent pool of existing Department of Education teachers that can be deployed at short notice to help fill critical vacancies across Far North Queensland, North Queensland, Central Queensland and Darling Downs South West Region. This provides teachers with the opportunity to temporarily relocate to undertake a short-term placement for a minimum of 4 weeks up to a semester.

Permanent teachers undertaking RRT placements are guaranteed to return to their base school at the end of the short-term placement and temporary teachers may have the opportunity to secure permanency.

Please note: The submission of an application to this pool does not guarantee a placement. Applications will be reviewed and considered throughout the year when a critical vacancy arises. Applicants are requested to withdraw their application in the situation where they are no longer available or interested in pursuing Rapid Response Team employment opportunities from this continuous applicant pool.

Teachers undertaking a placement through the Rapid Response team are supported by a range of incentives, which include:

  • Accommodation in a serviced apartment (or similar) with full kitchen facilities, funded by the department OR in a departmental residence with the rent and electricity to be covered.
  • Payment of a “living allowance” equivalent to $142 per day, to assist with general living costs.
  • Payment of Locality Allowance in accordance with the Queensland Government Locality Allowances Directive (PDF, 424KB) .
  • Access to up to two return trips (either kilometric allowance or flights) to their original departure location, when relocating for one term or longer.
  • Kilometric allowance for driving personal vehicle from home to commence at the temporary school and on return at end of appointment.
  • Enroute accommodation and meals if driving personal vehicle from home to commence at the temporary school, and on return at the end of the appointment.

The department encourages all Rapid Response Team participants to seek external professional financial advice on whether a Reportable Fringe Benefit Allowance (RFBA) will impact you personally.

It is highly recommended that Permanent state school teachers discuss participating in the Rapid Response Team with their Principal prior to submitting an application, as they will require their Principals approval to be released.

Please note that this initiative is in addition to the ongoing teacher transfer process.
