Longreach State High School seeks a flexible and passionate VET Trainer / Chef to deliver SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality onboard the Big Red Truck, our Outback Hospitality Trade Training Centre. This role is crucial in revitalising the Big Red Truck, ensuring its community presence by providing catering at events and guiding students through their hospitality training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver relevant and engaging learning experiences in SIT20316 Certificate II in Hospitality within The Big Red Truck through a Third-Party Agreement with Central Queensland University.
  • Develop and deliver a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work experience. Tailor training plans to individual learning styles and abilities.
  • Lead the planning and execution of catering services at community events, providing students with practical experience.
  • Maintain relationships with industry partners and VET providers to ensure current knowledge and skills.
  • Manage reporting, attendance, behaviour, assessments, and track competency and work placement progress.
  • Deliver training in accordance with Standards for Registered Training Organisations and the Australian Qualification Framework.
  • Instruct on the safe use of equipment in educational and industry settings.
  • Liaise with schools, VET institutions, industry, and the public regarding job opportunities for students.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and consumable stock control, coordinating with the Head of Department (VET and Big Red Truck).
  • Maintain thorough and accurate training documentation, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Monitor student progress, initiate intervention strategies, and ensure program completion.

Must-Have Skills and Experience:

  • Qualifications and experience in hospitality and commercial cookery.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116) or equivalent.
  • Experience in vocational education and training delivery.
  • Understanding of the VET Quality Framework and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain industry relationships.
  • Commitment to student development.

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in community engagement and event catering.
  • Experience in a school or educational setting.
  • Familiarity with regional or remote location challenges.
  • Creative teaching approach.
