We aim to improve work health and safety, electrical safety, and workers' compensation performance through regulatory and policy frameworks and the provision of evidence-based services and advice. We also develop, implement, and maintain policy and legislation relevant to industrial relations in Queensland, including whole-of-government responsibility for public sector enterprise bargaining and the regulation of Queensland's labour hire industry.

As a Manager of G&C within the ESO, you will be part of an efficient, flexible, and responsive team that strives to keep all Queenslanders safe around electricity.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a small team to ensure compliance activities and programs within the ESO portfolio are effective, deliverable, coordinated, and based on sound application
    of the legislation.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and auditing of the ESO's policy framework for administration and financial support services, systems, and procedures. Provide high-level advice and interpretation to the ESO leadership team.
  • Conduct internal audit activities to ensure ESO portfolio areas adhere to internal operational procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Provide high-level advice to the Executive Director, ESO, and other key stakeholders on contemporary, contentious, and emerging issues within the role's scope.
  • Prepare complex technical reports, correspondence, submissions, and briefs in response to ministerial requests and operational matters as directed by the Executive Director, ESO.
  • Represent ESO on internal and external committees and standards-setting forums.
  • Actively contribute to the strategic plan and program of work in the ESO by identifying and developing innovative solutions to reduce electrically related injuries and property damage.

The ideal candidate is:

  • Passionate about making a real difference in workplace safety with the ability to lead a team and manage complex compliance frameworks.
  • Experienced in managing staff, workloads, and sound decision-making to ensure consistent high-quality team outcomes.
  • High-level communication skills (oral and written) for influencing individuals and groups, problem-solving, resolving complex disputes, representing ESO at high-level meetings, and preparing accurate correspondence, briefs, and reports.
  • Skilled in interpreting and applying policies, procedures, and legislation applicable to the ESO areas.
  • Knowledge or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of electrical safety issues, compliance management strategies, enforcement measures, and OIR operational
    processes and procedures.
  • Understanding of contemporary human resource issues, including employment equity, non-discrimination, and workplace health and safety, and the ability to apply these to occupational health issues.

Benefits:

  • Be part of the solution to keep Queenslanders safe at work.
  • See the direct impact of your role in the community.
  • Access a range of benefits, including flexible work, health and wellbeing programs, competitive salary and superannuation, support for development,
    employment security, and more.
